The absentminded shadow of a farmer may be a symbol of this season.

It seems to be far... or near ...

Harvest festival " Grass " Japanese calligraphy

About 2,600 years ago, paddy field remains in Japan.
The history of farming is old.

The Emperor has always cherished paddy rice.
It is the tradition of our country.

Rice cultivation requires cooperation and perseverance.

吹くからに　秋の草木のしをるれば　　むべ山風を　嵐といふらん

" 草 " (sō・kusa). It is translated as grass, weed, herb, etc.

  This character is written by Kanzi, Semi-cursive script.

         Grass growing is certainly fast!

For, "All flesh is like grass, and all of man's glory like the flower in the grass.

　　　Rice is gently undulating.　　Slowly and orderly.

We are flexible, and will continue to walk towards the future.

Japanese has created many traditions as unity populations from two thousand years ago.

　　And, Season pass at a gallop here.

　　The crop was given to people.

　　The deep love was granted to them.

　　Every year in the long history.

　

　　It was a holy ceremony for our country.

　　The standing in line may be the molding beauty.

　　Our Courtesy, Modest, Consideration, Wisdom, Dignity ･･･.

　　All of them were born from here.

　　　The gentle breeze blows from the mountain to the foot, and leaves.

The preparations in the next season

Small Tanada reclamationed by the seashore side.
Here is Hirado-shi (Hirado-Island), Nagasaki Prefecture.

Hirado-shi is famous for the passing away Christian (Kakure Kirishitan) of the Edo era. 　It is a place related to Francisco de Xavier deeply.



The rice after having harvested it is drawn off to keep it.
This is already threshed.

There are a lot of beautiful church and remains of the Christian such a mountainous district and isolated islands.



An original keeping way is still left in this area.

They Christian still does life to respect tradition.



This work to perform in an inconvenient area needs very severe labor. This straw becomes the manure of the next year.

Francisco de Xavier propagated Christianity for the first time in 1549 at the Far East. Nagasaki has a great many Christians.
Almost anyone knows him in this country, even if don't know the name of the prime minister and not a Christian. It may be his influence that Spain and Portugal are very popular in the Far East.

Autumn rice terraces

The green of stairs called "Tanada" (rice terraces) is a particularly bright color.
As Tanada is hard to cultivate very much, it is valuable.

Rice made with water from almost pure spring is delicious. 　
Because there were not resources at all in the Far East, they reclamationed mountains during several hundred years.

Somewhere is broken certainly every year.


However, because here is a depopulation zone, Tanada will become extinct and come back to the mountain again sometime.

It is fate of the samsara of the Nature.

"Tanada"(rice terraces) after harvest

　　　The gain of Tanada is over early from the field of the level ground.
　　　It is located in Fukujima-cho, Nagasaki, the Japanese west edge here.

　　　We can see small islands over there.
　　　We can see the rice field where water is filled with in the evening.

　　　Furthermore, the several hundred kms west direction is Shanghai,
　　　that is near than go to Tokyo.

　　　It is a depopulated town, however, having abundant Nature.

The piling-stones(called"Ishigaki") around a rice field have been piled up for several hundred years while reinforcing it.
