ZEN Temple Eihei-ji in Winter

 

　

　Eihei-ji Temple is one of the oldest temples belonging to the Zen Soto sect which the priest Dōgen did a founder.

　It was founded to 1244.

　These outskirts are famous by having very much snow.

　Here is Eiheijicho, Fukui Prefecture.

　The Zen priest wears only a thin shoulder-worn robe (It seems to be very cold all day life, other Zen temple's link).

　And they sit in contemplation zazen without heating with bare foot.. before the daybreak to going to bed.

　The getting up is about 3:00. The bath is about once a week.

　The meal is "ichijuu issai " (ex.). Boiled barley and rice, miso soup, a side dish, a pickle.

　It means it "One soup One vegetables". Another helping? No!

　It may be difficult a little even if anyone is going to train oneself in this temple.

　Because the ascetic practices are very severe for a body mark and mind.

　And there is this temple distantly in a remote deep mountain from the town.

　If the exerciser gets tired of ascetic practices, he needs his life and courage to escape.

　Snow is piled up more than 3 meters in winter here.

　Therefore most the application is sent away even if they propose ascetic practices.

　It is called "turning away at the door" called Japanese "Monzen barai".

Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine

The mystery of the Far East, far away from you.

Here is Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

" Autumn " Japanese-Calligraphy ( Semi-cursive script )

" 秋 " ( shū,or aki ). It is translated in autumn.

This character is written by Kanzi, Semi-cursive script.

Etymology :　Semantic

秋 ⇒　禾 (grain)　+ 束 (bind)

The meaning harvests the crops, and bundle it up.

Autumn is the season of the blessing.

The abundant leads people to the joy.

The legendary Old - District

 

These houses say a gasshō-zukuri ( joining hands structure ). 

It resembles manual form when a man joined his hands. 

The structure is this local characteristic, and the roof where snow is easy to fall. 

Of course people still live in there. 

Nobles and concerned people made this village about 800 years ago. 

It is the legend that they lose to fight (1180–1185), and sheltered here. 

It takes several hours from the town nearby to here, and surrounded the circumference in the high mountains. 

Snow shut in people in old days.

 It will be the one of the places that are the most inconvenient in this small country. 

And it may be a good place of the scenery most.

The ancestral one of them is called "Heike". 

They were defeated by Yoritomo Minamoto of "Genji". 

The Heian period was over at the time, and the Kamakura period began. 

Yoritomo Minamoto is the first Shōgun. It is the leader of the samurai. 

Yes. When this village was born, the Samurai's area whom you knew was born, too.

Shichi - Go - San ( seven-five-three )

 

Shichi-Go-San is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Far east. 

For three and seven year-old girls and three and five year-old boys, held annually on November 15.

Shichi - Go - San is said to have originated in the Heian Period (794-1185) amongst court nobles, who would celebrate the passage of their children into middle childhood.

 The children wear the kimono which was various colors.

Chitose Ame, literally " thousand year candy ", is given to children on Shichi-Go-San. 

It is long, thin, red and white candy, which symbolizes healthy growth and longevity. 

A girl has it. The behind boy wears a white Tabi and Hakama.

 " 神 " ( shinn, or kami ). 　
It is translated as God. 　This character is written by Kanzi, Seal script. 

Phono-semantic compound ; semantic 示  “ show ” + phonetic 申  “ lightning ” .

Yes. God shows us everything.
 Everything will get to it as God leads it.

This Church was built in 1918 by settlers from the other places. 

Father French propagator " Lage " and " Doro " let believers emigrate at own expense.

It is registered with the important cultural property of the country.

On January 23, 2007, addition to the world heritage provisional list was decided 

as one of " the church group and Christianity of Nagasaki-related inheritances ".

It is a hill facing the sea in the distance, and the remote place that left the town far away.

Because this area was the home of ' Kakure Kirishitan ' .

The gravestone is south direction in the custom of the Far East.

However, all these gravestones are west directions.

Yes, there are Spain and Portugal, Europe in the direction.

They always look at the west, and sleep.

It is the Far West...

Legendary Shinto shrine with " Heart " Japanese calligraphy

　　　This Shinto shrine is named Mirror Shinto shrine ( kagami jinnja ).

This is the legendary Shinto shrine which there is from the ancient times about 1700 years ago.

There is it in Karatsu-shi, Saga Prefecture.

God dedicated to by here is Empress Jingū (170-269).

She performed religious service at the time of war here and dedicated a mirror.

This area of circumference is named " Mirror ", too.

　　　We rinse out a mouth and hands before entering the precincts of the Shinto shrine.

This is called a small pavilion with water and ladles (chouzuya, or temizuya).

　　　There is the normal in the one side of the approach to a shrine, but there is it on both sides here. 

It is very excellent structure.

　　　"心" (shinn, or kokoro). It is translated as heart, maind, spirit, etc.

　　　This character is written by Kanzi, regular script.

This is a movie of the noted place of Kyoto. 
There are scenes of "Fushimi Inari-taisha" ( Shinto shrine) .
 You may already have been to here.

The Distant Dream From the West to the East with " Faith " Japanese calligraphy

St. Francis Xavier memorial church. This Gothic church was built in 1931.　 

It is called the Catholic Hirado church, too.

The inside of the church is plain structure and decoration.　

It is the simplicity that is good for the country side of the Far East.

We are respect St. Francis Xavier, still now. 　

He is a missionary who spread Christianity for the first time in Japan.

Frugal build seems to represent a solid faith.

People take the influence just a moment. More than 70,000 missed.

Most of the towns melted with many citizens. Innocent at all children, women... they can't even run away.

Only "one" and "a moment"... 　It was made with atomic energy.
