"Art" Japanese calligraphy

"芸 術" (gei-jutsu). It is translated as Art.
This character is written by Kanzi,
Regular script.

Etymology : Phono-semantic compound
芸 ⇒ 云 (cloud) + 艸 (grass)
The state that the clouds spreading through hazily over the grassy plain.

Etymology : Phono-semantic compound
術 ⇒ 朮 (stick) + 行 (go)
The state to carry through one's faith tenaciously.

The essence of the art is put in this phrase.
The character talks about the property of the art.

I can image them by this etymology.
It may be the eternal message from the people of the ancient times.

  4. Buen fin de semana ruma, un beso

  5. A very artistic character, this one!

  6. Beautiful image of such an important word!

  7. Beautifully written.
Congrats. And have a beautiful weekend.

  8. Such an interesting story behind the strokes. Very beautiful, indeed.

  9. Thus, "art" as representining "nature". Totally different from many european languages, having this word coming from latin "ars/artis", hidding the primitive meaning of "work". Interesting indeed!

  10. Calligraphy is a beautiful art form in itself. It's so interesting to learn how blended words are formed, and the meaning of them.
