ZEN Temple Eihei-ji in Winter

 

　

　Eihei-ji Temple is one of the oldest temples belonging to the Zen Soto sect which the priest Dōgen did a founder.

　It was founded to 1244.

　These outskirts are famous by having very much snow.

　Here is Eiheijicho, Fukui Prefecture.

　The Zen priest wears only a thin shoulder-worn robe (It seems to be very cold all day life, other Zen temple's link).

　And they sit in contemplation zazen without heating with bare foot.. before the daybreak to going to bed.

　The getting up is about 3:00. The bath is about once a week.

　The meal is "ichijuu issai " (ex.). Boiled barley and rice, miso soup, a side dish, a pickle.

　It means it "One soup One vegetables". Another helping? No!

　It may be difficult a little even if anyone is going to train oneself in this temple.

　Because the ascetic practices are very severe for a body mark and mind.

　And there is this temple distantly in a remote deep mountain from the town.

　If the exerciser gets tired of ascetic practices, he needs his life and courage to escape.

　Snow is piled up more than 3 meters in winter here.

　Therefore most the application is sent away even if they propose ascetic practices.

　It is called "turning away at the door" called Japanese "Monzen barai".

The Nature may affirm all.

The getting burnt sense seems to be a smell of the far-off memory. 　　　

The absentminded shadow of a farmer may be a symbol of this season. 　　　

I sometimes lose my eyesight of it.

　　　　

The cold air wraps up the slope. 　　　

The smoke drifts aimlessly. 　　　

It seems to be far... or near ...

　　　　To the upper rice field. 　To the sky. . . 　　　

And to the next season. . . 　　　

The memories are wandering all the time.

Good old memories with " Once in a lifetime encounter " Japanese calligraphy

　　　"Home"

There are parents, brothers, family...

The place that anyone always returns.

　　　This house is cultural assets stored in a state about 50 years ago.

　　　Childhood, I played with friends around my house.

The long way. 　　The high wall...

At the time, I felt so.

　　　The building becomes old.

However, the nostalgia...

They are vivid, still now.

The disappearance of any building will be unavoidable.
No matter how luxurious it is.
Its Impermanence has already been described in Hōjōki, published in 1212.　

Nor is it clear to me, as people are born and die, where they are coming from and where they are going.  

Nor why, being so ephemeral in this world, they take such pains to make their houses pleasing to the eye.  

The  master and the dwelling are competing in their transience.  

Both will perish from this world like the morning glory that blooms in  the morning dew.  

In some cases, the dew may evaporate first, while the flower remains -- but only to be withered by the morning sun.  

In others the flower may wither even before the dew is gone, but no one expects the dew to last until evening.

"Once in a lifetime encounter"

Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur...

"一　期　一　会"

(　ichi 　go 　ichi 　e　)

This proverb comes from the tea ceremony.

And it is the knowledge of the first on the list of Sen no Rikyū.

Children's Day with " Faith " Japanese calligraphy

Japan has historically have continued the custom of celebrating children in May.
Decorating room with kimonos and brave dolls.

It is a national honor that men are brave.

No matter what world we are in, we have the soul of the noble SAMURAI.

The carp is the good luck symbol of rising.

" 信 " (shin, or makoto). It is translated as believe, trust, faith, etc.

　　　 人 (man) + 言 (words or say)

Meaning and form of this character has been very well fusion. This character will feel the solemnity to us.

Height of the tree 17.2m, trunk lap 9.1m, the spread are East-West 24m, north and south 21m
 
☆miharu taki "waterfall" zakura
(Age over 1000 years old)
