"Sea" Japanese calligraphy




 "" (kai, or umi). It is translated as the sea.
 This character is written by Kanzi,
Regular script.

 Etymology : Phono-semantic compound
 semantic  水 (water)  +  phonetic  每 (every)


 Waves always rush.
 Each the shape is different.

 There is always it there.
 However, time changes all.

  3. R-I like that the kanji for sea is water-every. The global ocean is water everywhere - but as you say at once the same but always changing. Thanks for that insight. I also checked out the link you gave - interesting how the kanji for sea developed; and the order of the strokes. B

  5. Etymology of 海 is so beautiful. Even though waves have rushed to the shore millions times since ancient times, never the same waves. One time one meeting.
